Takamura MUKUO
The Man who made the “worlds” of “Galaxy Express 999″, “MARCO”, “Goshu, the Cellist”…
Takamura Mukuo was born on 1 January 1938 in Sasebo-city, Nagasaki.
Studied Western Painting at Musashino Art University.
After graduating in 1963, joined Tokyo Movie Studio and started his career as a background artist for animation.
In 1966, established his own studio, Mukuo Group and Mukuo Studio in 1968.
He got grand-prix of the first anime popularity contest in the category of art, which is organized by the publisher Tokuma-Shoten. He got all five grand-prix from 1st to 5th of it till the contest stopped. Of course, only he had such a great record until now.
He had been painting numerous background art in his short career. As art director, participated in many masterpieces of Toei Animation studio, Nippon Animation Co.,LTD., and Mad House, etc. He continued to take a main role of realizing such masterpieces in Japan.
Passed away in 9 June 1992 of an illness. He was still 54 years old.
